MEMORIAL TABLE

“Every day I get up, is a new life. Now I try to give the best of me in every moment, I try to be whatever I haven't been before…”

A cell is the minimum unit of life; the word derives from the Latin cellula diminutive of cella or hollow. As all matter is generated from the union of atoms, living organisms are also composed of cell attachments; different combinations form various organs and structures, based on unique codes embeded in our DNA.

As a result of a genetic disease some cells begin a mutation process until they become cancer cells, they start to multiply without control inside the living organisms. This generates voids within the cellular structures.

Based on a picture of Gustavo, Renato and Jorge, some of the silent warriors in the fight against cancer that Fundación Rebecca de Alba has helped, we created a halftone of circles with different sizes and positions. Each of this circles where drilled through the surface of the Natalia table, design firm furniture donated by Calle Veinte, creating a hidden image that can only be seen from a distance.

Through this process we tried to make an analogy, between the way that cancer invades a living organism, with the way we invaded the materiality of a table. Each mark represents a person that has fought against this modern disease.

This way, a simple table can stop being only a table, to be transformed into a memorial.
